Shared hosting has several websites being hosted on one single powerful server and each website get shared resources like RAM, CPU, space, bandwidth etc. If one user overdraws, it will create an effect on the performance. VPS hosting on the other hand is more private i.e. the users have complete control over their shared resources. The users are independent and performance is not affected even if other users overdraw their resources. Shared hosting has the advantage of being less expensive than the VPS but it also has more number of websites hosting on the server.
